Rosa M. Casas

Dr Rosa M. Casas has been a CIBER researcher since 2007, taking on the role of
postdoctoral researcher in June 2016. She is currently a laboratory leader in the
Cardiovascular Risk, Nutrition and Healthy Aging group at IDIBAPS, a consolidated
research group (2021 SGR 01194) led by Dr Ramon Estruch. She has also been an
associate lecturer at the University of Barcelona since 2017, and since 2019 she has been
the co-coordinator of the official Master's programme in Innovation and Entrepreneurship
in Nutrition, Chronic Diseases, and Healthy Aging.
She has authored more than 145 original articles in prestigious journals such as JAMA,
Annals of Internal Medicine, Circulation Research, J Nutr, Am J Clin Nutr, NEMJ, Diabetes
Care, Nutr Metab Cardiovasc Dis, among others. She has also written four book chapters
for which she is corresponding author.
Dr Casas has played a key role in the coordination of national intervention studies
focusing on dietary and lifestyle modification, including the IMPACT study (involving 1,200
pregnant women with intrauterine growth retardation), the PREDIMED study (involving
7,447 participants at high cardiovascular risk with a 5-year follow-up) and the PREDIMED-
PLUS study (involving 6,874 participants with metabolic syndrome with a 6-year follow-
up). She is currently coordinating the DAO project (investigating the efficacy of a low
histamine diet and/or DAO enzyme supplementation in the management of symptoms
associated with histamine intolerance due to DAO deficiency in 400 individuals) and
subproject 1 of the European FoodPhyt project (HDHLINTIMIC).
She is currently leading the PEANUTY Study assessing the effects of regular peanuty
consumption on the neurocognitive skills of 200 healthy Spanish adolescents. She is
leader of ECS (Early Career Scientists) in the FoodPhyt Project (JPI-HDHL). Also, she has
international collaborations through NIH grants.
Furthermore, in the last 5 years, Dr. Casas has supervised more than 14 master’s final
projects (national and international), from various universities (University of Barcelona,
Rovira i Virgili, Castilla León, Università degli Studi di Milano, University of Canada),
culminating some of them in publications in first quartile journals. To date, Dr. Casas has
supervised 2 PhD Dissertations and currently, she is co-directing two PhD Dissertations
more.
In addition, she holds memberships in several scientific committees and entities,
including her role as the ECS representative since November 2022, Scientific Coordinator
of the Mediterranean Diet Foundation since 2019, PI of the Mediterranean Diet Foundation
group in CCNIEC since 2019, participation in the Steering Committee for the IMPACT
project, membership in the advisory board for the +AGIL project, and membership in SEÑ.
