Aylin Öney Tan

Aylin Öney Tan is an architect specialised in conservation, food researcher, and writer. She is the food columnist for Hürriyet Daily News (Fork & Cork), a leading Turkish national English-language daily, holds a weekly column in Milliyet newspaper and broadcasts a daily program titled “Bitter, Sweet, Sourish” on NTV Radio.
A regular symposiastat the Oxford Symposium on Food and Cookery from 2007 to 2017, Tan was awarded The Sophie Coe Prize for food history in 2008. She has conducted extensive research on Turkish food history and culture and regularly attends food-focused symposiums and conferences worldwide, such as the Dublin Gastronomy Symposium, IEHCA Conference in Tours and the Roger Smith Conference in New York City. She is currently the Turkish delegate at the Science & Cooking World Congress (SCWC) held every November in Barcelona.
Tan has written the entry for Türkiye in Food Cultures of the World Encyclopaedia, Street Foods of the World Encyclopaedia, and contributed to The Oxford Companion to Sugar & Sweets and The Oxford Companion to Cheese. She is the leader of Slow Food Ankara Convivium and has written A Taste of Sun & Fire: Gaziantep Cookery. In addition, she has contributed to several magazines and books in Türkiye.
